Still busy Cleaning All The Things, although was v. unmotivated today. Possibly because the weather was gorgeous and sunny and properly spring-like. Anyway, a swift round-up of links (some from my flist, some from elsewhere) so I can close some of my open tabs:

Also watched Frozen last Saturday and have had Let It Go stuck in my head ever since. Not that I mind, really. And it's probably got a lot to do with Impish Girl practising it on the piano daily...

Have a picture of a red-flanked blue tail. I don't know if it's rare or not, but it's pretty. :)

If you're wondering where I've been, I've merely been busy Cleaning All The Things. I am nowhere near done, although I will try to write fic/meta on the side.

(This is why I don't write about RL - it is so dull it'd put you to sleep. Although it is very satisfying to sort stuff out that's needed doing for YEARS.)

ETA: When putting the Cherub (8 y.o) to bed, Darcy explained the story of the Good Samaritan to her. This was her response:

"A long time ago people got squashed by elephants."

(Your guess is as good as mine.)

Considering that my input was limited to giving Miss Bossy a quid & pulling a name out of an envelope, this is very nice indeed. Hello £25!

Buzzfeed: 52 Heartwarming Pictures From The First Day Of Equal Marriage In The UK

ETA: From The Sunday TimesCollapse )

~

I've not seen it, but I read the review in The Sunday Times, which was a) spoilery, and b) snarky, but fabulous. (Camilla Long is not a fangirl.) The relevant part:

'Credit to Chris [Evans] who does a good job of believing him [Arnim Zola], before discovering that the Winter Soldier is in fact his best friend. Cue lasers and bromance.'

I am now very, very tempted to change my title to 'Lasers and Bromance'.

~

And then I thought I'd share some texts Miss M sent me recently. We were going to see The LEGO Movie, and we were running late. Except Miss M had been in town with some friends, so was waiting for us. For about half an hour or so...

She makes me laughCollapse )

For new friends/random strangers: I have a vast AU 'verse about the Master's son (an OC, obviously, born during The Year That Never Was). This is the latest installment - a total re-write of The Stolen Earth/Journey's End. (No really, I'm so far from canon that pretty much the only things that are staying the same are Davros & the Daleks. And it's the only canon story I've ever adapted. It's an interesting process.) If you're curious and want to have a look, there's no need to read the previous stories - this (like all the other stories) is designed to stand alone if need be. Beginning here: Prologue. And Master post for the whole 'verse here.

(Mostly then I can't believe I'm actually posting this chapter. It ends on a cliffhanger I've had planned since 2008!)

Summary: "Why is it only ever the bad guys who have a proper plan?" The Master's son finally meets the Daleks. And he thought it a good day. (TSE/JE rewrite with Eleven and Clara and a host of extras.)
Setting: Future AU TSE/JE.
Spoilers: The Name of the Doctor (S7.13)
Rating: PG-13.
Characters: The Seeker (OC, the Master's son), Eleventh Doctor, Clara, the Master, Jack, River, Roda (OC), Davros, others.
Beta: The always lovely kathyh.
Thank yous: To the_redjay for the loan of Roda.
Feedback: Pretty please? I'm very curious to see what you think.

Like I explained in my recent post, Darcy finished an MA in film making last year. One of his MA films, Border Patrol, has been entered into the Viewster Online Film Fest. Follow the link below view the films, and vote (the more 5 start ratings for Border Patrol the better!). If you're on facebook you don't even need to log in. If you're not (like me) YOU CAN STILL VOTE! Creating a log-in literally takes seconds - just click on the 'Vote' button and follow the instructions. :)

http://www.viewster.com/festivals

Border Patrol - Summary:

Carl, a young eager German border cop, is anxious to finish work so he can watch the big football match against Austria. Getting annoyed with his partner, Franz (who’s nearing retirement and likes to take his time), his plans are thwarted by the discovery of a suicide victim in the woods just near the Austrian border. The wily Franz realises this is an opportunity for a bit of fun with his younger colleague, and sets about instructing him in making the body the Austrians’ problem.

Today is THE LAST DAY FOR VOTING (oh god, this week has been so busy! /o\) so please follow the link as soon as possible. I promise, the film is *excellent*! (Yes, I'm biased, but that doesn't mean I'm not right.)

And please pass it on?

Via Sully Dish:

A lone female blogger, Nicki Daniels, wrote a piece about how hipsters are ruining beards by making it harder for her to find a truly manly man (rather than a poseur who can’t change tires/got me there). This made people pile on her in predictable fashion. (As you would know if you read Society's New Rules.) Then she wrote an apology:

I'm sorry.

I'm not good at this, but I figure it can double as a 'If you ever had any questions, go on and ask' posts.

So hello new people! (Also hello new people that just have added me quietly at some point. And hello lurkers! And hello old friends!)

I'm 37, happily married to an independent film maker, Darcy, (this is a new career path for him, but what he's always wanted to do - he finished an MA in film production last year, so he actually knows what he's doing!), and we have three daughters. Miss M (15), Impish Girl (12) and The Cherub (8). All good fangirls. (When we went to see Day of the Doctor in the cinema, Impish Girl and the Cherub cos-played as Eleven and little Amelia, complete with fez & little suitcase. ♥ Darcy is partially named so in my LJ for thinking all the fannish stuff is strange and peculiar - rather like the original Darcy viewed the Bennet family.)

I work fulltime in a local College (mostly 16-18 year olds) in an admin position. Oh and I live in England if that wasn't clear. (Used to be a stay-at-home mum when the girls were small, so I still wonder where all the time went.) Did a foundation course in Art a long time ago. Still love art, but love writing more, I think.

I don't tend to talk much about RL, as I lack the talent for making it sound exiting. Although the stories I could tell from work as something else. Should probably write a book, except I'd get sued. *g*

For fannish stuff, then there's links on my sidebar to selected fic/meta and Master Posts. Both BtVS/AtS & Doctor Who & Torchwood. Although my heart belongs to Eleven, I am still exceedingly fond of Ten, and he was the one who first made me fannish about Doctor Who. <3 My very small claim to fame is that I wrote an essay for Chicks Unravel Time.

In general fannish news, I'm currently trying to actually pull myself together and write the Clara meta I've been thinking about since Christmas. If you're curious, then the whole thing is basically summed up in my icon. (You can also go watch purplefringe's Never Look Away and niyalune's The State of Dreaming, which will give a good background to my thoughts.)

A little clarification re. my last post: My parents are Danish, but they moved to the Faroe Islands when I was tiny, so that is where I grew up. I have now lived in the UK for a loooong time.

And to give you a flavour of the place that isn't touristy, I thought this would be perfect. I happened across it on youtube, and it's quite simply lots of youtube clips of weather in the Faroes shoved together. (Don't worry, the first clip has no sound - it's not your computer.) Also, re. that first part, then I showed it to Darcy and he took in the situation, then said: "But that's INSANE! I don't want to watch someone DIE!"

Don't worry, no one dies. But it's... pretty insane. Am also pleased there are segments on our brave little - and not so little - ferries.)

Incidentally, the worst storm [ever recorded] was the Christmas storm of 1988. At its worst, the wind was measured at 62 meters per second (that's 138.6 miles per hour). Although to be fair, at that point the Anemometer broke.

Mind you, storms are a winter thing. In summer there's generally rain and fog. (And sun and wind and then more rain and then the next half hour is going to be *really* changeable... *g*)

Silhouettes
Summary: "There's nothing that I'd take back, but it's hard to say there's nothing I regret". Doctor and Amy relationship study video. (Spoilers for everything.)
A/N: So that was quite unexpected. Till last week I've never even wanted to watch Doctor Who. I guess I didn't have a chance, did I?
Hope this is pretty much self explanatory. I plan on making some more DW videos, so many ideas! Beautiful show and imagery. (Me: Goodness, I can't wait! This one almost made me cry!)

Volcano Heart
Summary: "Let's play a game. Let's play murder". Sherlock character study. (Spoilers for everything.)

10 Things Angel Did Better Than Any Other Show by What Culture.

ETA: Oh god. Just found this on youtube, and it might be my favourite Sherlock vid to date. I clicked on it, because seriously, what a perfect song. Even so, I was taken aback. Embedded under cut. (Spoilers for everything.)

"When the sky turns gray
And everything is screaming
I will reach inside
Just to find my heart is beating"

"So I bare my skin
And I count my sins
And I close my eyes
And I take it in
And I'm bleeding out
I'm bleeding out for you"

SPOILERS FOR SERIES 3!!

Hello everyone.
Sherlock came back in January and so am I. The character development of this series really inspired me, and I've been willing to use a song by Imagine Dragons for a long time. I wanted to use mostly footage from series 3, and focus on the actions taken by Sherlock in order to protect John (and of course Mary). Yes, this show, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson own my soul. And it's good for creativity, I suppose (well, at least I'm trying).

Thanks for watching!

my thoughts echoed
About The Wedding of River Song:
"Eleven, in the very episode that's about killing off the Lonely God once and for all, meets River when she is Waters of Mars Ten. He's just decided to lay this part of himself to rest, and there's the Timelord Victorious standing right in front of him--and he doesn't run away, or shove her in a cupboard, or try to kill her, or "give her a choice" to make himself feel better about killing her... he marries her. He loves her and accepts her and that's how he gets her to stop."
10littlebullets

"If someone is there for you, is asking nothing of you and has loved you faithfully and unconditionally for all those years and if that person is the one that you turn to for comfort and support when you are at your most vulnerable, and if they give you that comfort and support unconditionally asking nothing in return, then whether you acknowledge it or not, that is love, so yes Buffy loved Spike."
(Jane Espenson?)

The Doctor (to River): "Please. Help me."

About Chosen:
"Even if we hadn’t seen Buffy’s face shining in the most perfect, absolute expression of love in that final scene – didn’t everything that Buffy and Spike were to each other already tell us very, very clearly that they loved each other? And if you don’t see that – didn’t already see that, long before this scene – then, goodness, we’re not watching the same show."
the_royal_anna

Mr Lux: "And who is the Doctor?"
River: "The only story you'll ever tell - if you survive him."
'Forest of the Dead'

“The Angel and Spike relationship has this mythic feel... David and James know how to play everything like they hate each other, but there is this weird underlying love, and I can't write that... I just love Spike so much and think he is the best character ever. He is just a writer's dream. Spike is the outsider there to deconstruct all the heroes because he doesn't play along, yet he is one, but he would never admit it. I think we are proud he became part of the AtS universe without acting like he was part of it.”
Drew Goddard

"Season six [of Buffy] remains the highlight. You won't find a more skilled extended exploration of existential turmoil on the big or small screen. And I'm not talking "woe is me" teenage angst, but a genuine search for what it means to be human. It's Bergman for the masses."
Tim Porter, Paste Magazine

Ianto: "I – know you get lonely."
Jack: "Going home wouldn't fix that. Being here, I've seen things I never dreamt I'd see. Loved people I never would have known if I'd just stayed where I was... And I wouldn't change that for the world."
'To The Last Man'

The Seventh Doctor: "I can hear the sound of empires toppling."
'The Happiness Patrol'

Messenger: "There is a woman who wants to meet you."
Doctor: That's nice, but I'm married."
The prequel to 'Asylum of the Daleks'
